Research
Our focus is empirical research on the sources of long-run growth & development such as technology, institutions, policies, market integration and trade. In addition to these factors, we analyze financial markets and their design, the evolution and determinants of agricultural commodity prices, demographic developments, and social mobility.
We run a biweekly research seminar to discuss latest developments in the areas of “economic history, growth & development”.
On these pages you find:
- recent publications,
- funded research projects,
- and more information on our research seminar.
Interested in experiments?
If you would like to take part in experiments carried out in cooperation with our department, please enter your contact details in the linked form. We will contact you if we conduct a suitable experiment and invite you to participate. Of course, there are no obligations for you.
In addition to your contribution to research, which you make significantly as a test subject, participation in experiments is also remunerated. Click here for the form.
What to expect?
If you are selected from this pool of potential subjects to take part in an experiment, you will receive an invitation with all the important information about the experiment. You are still free to participate or not.
Typical experiments: controlled conditions with simulations to test economic behaviour patterns. Typically, participants in experiments have to make decisions according to predetermined rules that have direct monetary consequences on a given amount of money. Duration: 30-60 min.
Concrete experiment: Simulated auction in which participants take on the role of buyer/seller (V. Smith 1965).
What are we interested in?
We are interested in various aspects of the coordination of economic subjects and the related formation of institutions. Accordingly, experiments from this area will be used.
Experiments are reviewed by the Commission for Ethical Issues in Science (KeFW) at MLU before they are conducted. Data protection is an equally important and binding requirement that we guarantee.
