Chair of Empirical Macroeconomics

Welcome to our website

Our mission as an economics department is to improve the world today and for future generations through excellent research, education and social engagement. We want to understand, communicate and change the economic, social and personal transformation processes of an increasingly complex world. We do this in the areas of sustainability, digitalization and governance.

The team at the Chair of Empirical Macroeconomics implements this in courses, projects and scientific research. For example, ...

  • ... in teaching, we examine the formation and development of markets, organizations, institutions and governance from the perspective of economic history. A central component of this is European integration, which we also actively promote through cooperation. We supervise the bilateral double-degree program  European and International Economics - Politiche europee ed internazionali together with the Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore    (Milan, Italy). We are currently working with the Turkish-German University    in Istanbul to establish a double degree program at Bachelor level in the field of economics.
  • … our research explores the design and functioning of markets. In connection with this, we deal with the determinants of long-term economic development from an empirical perspective. Our work is published in renowned journals and we maintain national and international research collaborations. In our interdisciplinary research seminar, we engage in discussions with renowned researchers.
  • ... we coordinate the transfer of skills in the following areas in cooperation with other universities: Development and design of study and graduate programs (together with InGra), university information management (together with the Stabsstelle), spin-off companies (with the start-up transfer service). This takes place within the framework of several third-party funded projects, e.g., in a university management project with Addis Ababa University   , Ethiopia and the Gulu University   , Uganda. We also supervise a Master's degree program at the Turkish-German University in Istanbul as part of the Turkish-German University consortium.
